Located at the bottom of the road leading to Batu Ferringhi, Tanjung Bungah is a reasonably populated sub-urban area with a decent beach and good food to eat. It used to be a fishing village It isn’t as popular as the Batu Ferringhi beaches, but it attracts a crowd to its beaches.

Tanjung Bungah used to be a fishing village but is now populated by commuters from Georgetown. It is an affordable place for tourists with a smaller budget. Four of Tanjung Bungah’s popular hotels have a beach front, namely Paradise Sandy Bay, Copthorne Orchid, Crown Jewel, and Tanjung Bungah Hotel. These hotels are 3-4 star hotels and are priced at an average of USD37* a night depending on which you choose. Most locals find Paradise Sandy Bay the better amongst the four, followed by Copthorne Orchid.

 

A new attraction at Tanjung Bungah is a toy museum, especially for tourist interests. The museum showcases all sorts of dolls, and even some from Sesame Street and Kung Fu dolls. The only setback is that you won’t get to touch or play with them, to the dismay of many children. The museum is built in an Egyptian style but judging by its outlook, it isn’t too professional. So unless you’re willing to spend RM10 on yourself and RM6 for kids, a visit here might serve best as a backup if you have nothing much to do.

At night you can seek good seafood from across the roads, but be warned of the traffic and be sure to cross the road with the utmost caution! If you’re unsure where to go after a yummy dinner, you can head into Georgetown for a drink, or visit the Gurney Drive for more tidbits and refreshments. You can also head up to Batu Ferringhi to have a drink at the restaurants or pubs, or hit the night flea market to do a little shopping.
