Penang Tour
Where to go and what to
do?
_______________________________________
If you’ve arrived on the Island of Penang by bus, or airplane, you will need all the
information possible to getting around the island. Taxis and busses are a good choice but you if you can walk,
do it as it is a lot cheaper and you can absorb the sights and sounds of the beautiful pearl of the orient. A
great place to walk about is Georgetown. Whilst many historical landmarks stand strong in Georgetown, there is
also a tourist centre where you can pick up information of where to go and how to get
there.
Penang is abundant with trishaws so if you want a real cultural
experience, hop onto one of these and tell the ‘driver’ to take you to your destination. Just remember that
he can’t go very far so this mode of transport would be best used to getting around an area such as
Georgetown.
In Batu Ferringhi and Gurney Drive, you only need to walkabout to
experience the fun and laid back culture and food on the strip. It wouldn’t be necessary to use any
transportation here except for if you want to go into town.
For a less complicated and straight to the point day plan, it would be
wise to book a tour with your hotel or any tour agency on the island. The only setback here is that you will
have a set amount of time to spend at a location. The bright side is you will know where everything is
located so if you desire a second time, you can always go back to the location on your own. Penang after all
isn’t too big so getting around is easy.
